What do Veterans, Project Runway, Godzilla-esque Public Speaking Fears & I Have In Common? – Day 20

Day 20
Listening to: Rock-a-bye Sweet Baby James
Thought for the day: Gratitude begets courage.

I started the day thinking my only adventure would involve using all 6 of the bathroom stalls at work. I usually go to the same stall every time. Doesn’t everyone? I figured a continual change of scenery throughout the day might flush the monotony out of my soul. Turns out, my stall experiment will have to wait for another day.

Rewind to Monday.

One of my favorite reality shows in Project Runway. A few days ago they posted a request on Twitter for people to submit photos that told a story. Chosen pictures will be used in one of the challenges for their designers. I submitted this picture which was taken by my friend Mary Crow. It was taken during the Memorial Day ceremony that I was in charge of as a part of my presidential duties of Old Hickory Veterans Memorial Park.

I am TERRIFIED of pubic speaking. MEGA GODZILLA KING KONG TERRIFIED.

I love this picture because you can’t tell how scared I am. I look confident. WHAT? How did that happen? You can’t Photoshop confidence. Finding the strength to slay the monsters in my mind to stand in front of a crowd comes strictly from the veterans themselves. When I realize the veterans that I represent have seen incomprehensible atrocities and have watched close friends die, my public speaking fears become insignificant. Gratitude begets courage.

Fast forward to today.

I received a notice that Project Runway is interested in the picture. YAAAY! What does that mean? I have no clue. I have to sign a release and then we’ll see. Stay tuned y’all!
